Apple iPad is a charmer and everyone who has one in India is very disappointed as they can not get any microsim here. Apple’s iPad 3G comes with an AT&T microsim. But when you bring it to India. The only 3G service provider, BSNL provides a regular sim for their 3G service. This is a great issue and really hard to solve until there is a 3G service provider who have a microsim.
Here is trick that can help you use the Bsnl 3G service on your iPad. I am sure that this will help many people who are eager to use 3G service on their iPad in India. It is a bit awkward but you need to cut your regular sim card into the shape of a microsim, carefully making sure that the important parts of the sim are preserved and properly aligned. This is the primary step to make Bsnl, Mtnl 3G sim capable to adjust in microsim slot. You need to cut the sim in the outline as shown in below pics:
Once you cut the sim in the appropriate size you have won the battle. Just put the Sim in the iPad and configure the iPad as explained below.
set APN for BSNL 3G on iPad, open Settings > General > Network. Under Network Settings, open Cellular Data Network and set APN as “bsnlnet”. Leave the username and password field blank and restart your device.
APN settings for MTNL 3G – Input APN as “pps3g” (prepaid) and “mtnl3g” (postpaid). Enter “mtnl” as username and “mtnl123” as password.
Now, you will able to surf the internet on iPad using Bsnl or Mtnl 3G. Please let me know if you face any issue while doing the work-around.
