Facebook was badly hit by a spam attack few days back, but now the issue has been resolved. The recent spam attack on facebook placed porn images on users wall, a million users all over web were hit by this porn spam attack. To this facebook said that they have now rectified the error and also identified the spammers. Facebook told that the spam attack was due to “browser vulnerability” that the spammers were easily able to cause such unwelcomed situation.
“Facebook’s security team had been working to identify the cause of the spam and that, by Tuesday afternoon, we have eliminated most of the spam caused by this attack. We are now working to improve our systems to better defend against similar attacks in the future,”

There are a few steps that one can follow to secure themselves from spam attack.
1. Secure Browsing
Turn on Secure browsing of facebook (https). For switching on secure browsing on facebook follow these steps
Account Setting –>Security Setting –> Secure Browsing (Enable it) –> Save Changes
2. Update Browser
Update your browser as soon as the new version launches, updates web browsers are necessary to be secured from phishing attacks.
3. Reporting Spam
Tracking spam is a difficult task, however if you come across any suspicious link report it. Do not click and suspicious links. Try to look for spammer’s ISP and report. Forward it to your ISP, if your complaint is right, the ISP may terminate the account.
4. Password
Setup strong password, i know this line is more of a cliché, but its very vital. Use a mix with special characters. According to a study some of the most common passwords are
- password
- qwerty
- monkey
- passw0rd (with the number 0, one of my friend also has this password)
- dragon
- qazwsx
- iloveyou
5. Updated Operating System
Keep the operating system updated for your computer. The outdated versions of OS are very vulnerable to virus attacks.
