Have you ever tried to get blood out of a stone? Then you must have tried to buy a decent laptop under 300 dollars. It is real tough let me tell you. If you do manage to find one going at this sort of price new, then I will put money that it is a poor relation to its more pricey cousins. Low RAM, slow, cheap hard drives, dodgy web cams and many more faults that shows how the corners have been cut.
So what's the answer, besides saving more money? Well the answer to cheap laptops is looking beyond buying a new one. Yes, new laptops less than $300 are nice to have. We all love the feeling of breaking open the seals and smelling that brand new plastic. The joy of removing the packing and hugging it close and saying "Mine, all mine!" Mind you that might just be me. But you get the picture.
Why not think about the advantages of going second hand and buying used or refurbished models, which means you can have a lot more technology for your money. It's not so full of fear and danger as you might think.
First of all, try to steer your mind away from dodgy back room dealings and the image of the slightly sweaty second hand car salesman with the awful hair do. These days, reputable companies and business have seen the benefits of offering quality affordable solutions for those of us living on a tight budget.
Not only can you go online and see hundreds of top of the range laptops at low prices this way, but you can, at places like Amazon, also see reviews of the sellers themselves. This is no eBay flame fest, but a structured review process put in place to regulate their marketplace.
Of course you still need to do your research. Check out the reviews for that model and also make sure you read and understand the different codes for quality. Some might have cosmetic damage whilst others are just ex-display.
So don't discount shopping for nearly new at Amazon. Have a sniff around and you will be amazed at what you can find. You will suddenly see that laptops under $300 or less don't have to be clockwork duds that let you down. You could actually end up owning a top Dell, HP or Asus laptop for a ridiculous knockdown price.
