Downloading and storing media on your device is so 2014. Now, as we progress forward into the era of the subscription model, the emphasis is being well and truly placed on streaming services that see media such as music, movies, and TV shows streamed directly to your mobile and connected home devices. Google may be one of the biggest tech companies in the world, but it’s somewhat lagging behind the competition in terms of streaming numbers. In an attempt to correct that, and to promote its own Google Music and YouTube Red streaming services, those who own a compatible Android TV or Google Cast supported device such as Chromecast can take advantage of some free access to both of those services.
While Google Music has been around for some time, YouTube Red is a relatively much newer service, which brings a host of features for enhancing your YouTube experience. Perfect for those Android-powered set-top-boxes and TVs, and the deal is made even sweeter when an otherwise paid service, can be had for free. Here’s what you need.
Requirements:
- Ownership of a Google Chromecast, Nexus Player, NVIDIA SHIELD TV, or similar Android-powered TV or Google Cast streaming device.
- Be a resident and located within the United States.
- A little bit of patience and a desire to get something for nothing for a period of 90-days.
How to get Google Music and YouTube Red free for 90-days:
Step 1: Launch Google’s Chrome browser and navigate directly to the Chromecast offers page where the 90-day access deal is located: cast.google.com/chromecast/offers.
Step 2: Agree to the terms and conditions of Google’s offer by ticking the little checkbox near the annotation before selecting to Continue to progress.
Step 3: You will now be asked to install the Google Cast extension to your Chrome browser, if it’s not already installed. Once added, move on to Step 4.
Step 4: When asked, tap the Select Your Device option to start the process of looking for the connected Android TV or Chromecast device. Note that any device must be on the same wireless network as the computer in order to be discovered.
Step 5: When your particular device is located, select it from the interface to see the available offers.
Step 6: When the offers are displayed, make sure to click Redeem to claim your $6 gift card per device, or free 90-day access to Google Music or YouTube Red.
Thanks a lot for the generosity, Google. Apple’s relatively recent launch of its Apple Music service allowed users to try out the streaming package for 90-days as well.
It seems that Google has also recognized the need to promote the benefits of its own streaming offerings by utilizing Android-powered streaming hardware. They aren’t exactly making a song and dance about it like Apple did when Apple Music launched, but if you know how to access it then it’s a fantastic way of seeing what Google Music and YouTube Red have to offer.
Would love to here from you...
