Keeping your computers and email safe from the hackers is a daunting task as the hackers have devised hacking methods that can penetrate even the safe computers. Most people believe they have their important documents safe and sound not realizing the fact that there are hackers on the prowl who can peek into your files and have your robbed of the stored information. In order to have our own documents and files as safe as houses, it is important for us to find better ways of securing our PCs. Here are a few measures for preventing hacking in Windows XP.

• One of the conventional methods of preventing hacking of your windows XP is the enabling of the anti-virus software programs. The updated versions of anti virus programs deny access to any alien users trying to sneak into your computer.
• If you have any emails from unknown persons asking you to open any attachments they have provided, it is best to ignore them. It is the handiwork of the malicious hackers who send them to gain access to your computer and the files in them.
• Another method is to protect using firewalls. To enable a firewall you need to go to the ‘Start’ button and then on ‘All programs’ and then on ‘Windows Update’. Now you need to download the latest update of firewall and then reboot the computer after installation. Now enter into the Control Panel and click ‘On’ in the ‘Security Center’ or ‘Windows Firewall’ to enable the firewall. Your computer is now protected from the internet traffic.
• Have your PC secured by having a password that is strong so that there is no possibility of password hacking.
• Windows XP can also be hacked through shared printers and it is important that you disable the option once the work is over. You need to go to the Control Panel and click on Network Connections. Right click on the LAN icon and uncheck the “File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks”.
• Have all the systems patched as the intruders can gain easy access through every way possible. You need to keep track on the various programs that you use. Also use encrypted connections between the client and server.
• You can also remove the hacker software programs by clicking ‘Start’ and ‘Run’ where you need to type “mrt” and then Enter. Click ‘Next’ and then ‘Full Scan’ and then ‘Next’.
