G-Kashmir an opportunity for IT investments, partnerships: Experts

The first ever visit of the global internet giant, Google, to Kashmir next week is expected to open new opportunities for IT investment and partnerships for Kashmir, besides giving much-needed exposure to the latent local talent, experts said.
The event “G-Kashmir” will see a Google US international team visit Kashmir and have an open interaction with people from different walks of life.
The eight-member team will be here on the invitation of Mercy Corps, a US-based non-profit developmental agency working in Kashmir Valley.

The event will see an international Google team including the members of YouTube and Google’s global entrepreneurship outreach division interact with Students, Businessmen, Software Professionals, IT Entrepreneurs, Marketers, Techies, Developers, Publishers and  Content Owners who have been invited with free entries to the venue at SK International Convention Centre here on November 3, 2011.
“Featuring customized content, the G-Kashmir event will equip participants with tips, tricks and tools to win digitally. The event will provide training on using digital tools to spur technology innovation, business and entrepreneurship in Kashmir,” said Usmaan Ahmad, Kashmir Director, Mercy Corps. He said the other Internet enthusiasts like that of YouTube users will also get expert advice on how to create and market content. “Kashmiri IT entrepreneurs will get the opportunity to put forth their business ideas and get tips from the experts on how to take their ideas forward. They will get an opportunity to directly engage with the Google’s international team and get the chance to ask questions to the top peers, experienced mentors and experts,” he said. The team, Usmaan said, would also assess the IT sector of the Valley and identify needs and gaps in the market. The event has generated a tremendous response from the people especially from the IT sector. “It is a very good endeavour by Mercy Corps that they are partnering with Google and inviting the international team here. It can prove to be a training ground for the programmers and developers of tomorrow and give them exposure to latest and the best from Google,” said an IT entrepreneur. Also it is for the first time that Kashmiri techies will be interacting with any team of experts from the global Internet giant, he said. Apart from software professionals and developers, the team will also make businessmen and marketers understand how to leverage the Google’s wide range of services more efficiently. Experts said the visit could help open new opportunities for IT investment and partnerships for Kashmir. “It would also give a lot of exposure to our local talent,” experts said.
