Couple of weeks ago, when I asked few of the friends about the prominent features of Symbian^3, I was surprised to note that majority of respondents talked about the prominent features of Nokia N8. Though my findings were a little different from my basic question, but the respondents’ insisted that some of the features may not be applied in the Nokia and/or Symbian^3. Almost great majority of the features, identified, were those about which ‘Tech Holics’ has already posted news. So, the job was just to summarized our previous posts which is done below:

It’s your all-purpose units converter with a slick type carousel and lovely large buttons for entering numbers.

It takes just 2 seconds to set the timer as you may not leave the eggs, pizza or whatever while it is also good for other little timing tasks around the house.

As a alternative to the email, Symbian can do some specific job through Nokia Email/Messaging with supports of multiple email accounts, providing a unique and advanced attachment handling system. In recent versions, pinch-to-zoom and full multi-touch on any image or document, homescreen widgets and native Symbian notifications functions are also added.

Though not built in, Nokia N8 supports it as add-on for this camera (chances of its availability for the C7, E7 and C6-01 as well). With a sequence of photos as you spin round, the utility joints them together, expertly, and the results can be spectacular.

8. Nokia Sleeping Screen | ||
Available from Nokia Beta Labs, it depends upon OLED screens for animated screen saver functions for Symbian^3 phones even though the screen is ‘off’. It is designed with clever stuff and graphic displays for low power mode.

9. Nokia Internet Radio | ||
Internet Radio is an amazing facility which can be pluck out of the ‘air’ on any phone as Nokia has an excellent system with good content directory, excellent phone hardware integration with buttons and a nice system of keeping records of favorites.

Though an early version of it is pre-installed in all Symbian^3 phones but as Social 1.3 is different, it distributed separately through Nokia Beta Labs. It is designed for faster performance, full image uploading, better sharing facilities and a many others ….

11. Orange Wednesdays | ||
It is a promotional application for Orange UK’s cinema ticket offer system and a very convenient way to get listings of all the latest film releases and with synopses and relevant information. I has also a Cinema location search module complete with showtime.

12: Opera Mobile 11 | ||

Opera Mobile has been, traditionally, a web browser with a nod to Opera Mini’s compression technology, Opera Mobile has ‘Turbo’ mode, where servers compress some of the original site code and content, and decompress within Opera Mobile itself.

13. Opera Mini 6 | ||
It’s a completely proxy-based web browser, i.e. all the HTML, images and scripting from your chosen web site are collected by Opera’s servers, making is suitable and appropriate to download by the Opera Mini client. To use it is a very fast web experience.

After Java-based versions, version 6 is a Symbian application, i.e. the app starts faster, runs faster and text input can be slicker with no multi-touch zoom but still with excellent browsing experience.

14. Opera Mini 6 | ||
PocketLock is a small utility that locks which locks your phone when it is inside your pocket or bag and unlocks it when taken out. While running in the background with auto-starts ups with your phone, you would never need to keylock button ever again, making it indispensable.

15. Pixelpipe | ||
Pixelpipe support every service for the mobile but it is also more complicated to set up than a VHS video recorder. Still, once configured and in place you can share anything you want to any social service.

Swype is a complete keyboard replacement for Symbian that works by tracing your fingers around the various keys rather than just by taps alone. Though an intriguing and clever system but requires a lot of finger exercise and isn’t ideal for all.

Though a commercial software but now is freeware with a few static ads displayed. About a hundred channels of live TV, of international flavor, are available on demand on your phone. Channels can be niche but then that still with a little charm of from price point of view.

Available in the Symbian four the last 4 years, this GPS-logging utility is still there firmly for uploading your runs, walks, cycle rides, heart monitor and some online friends who can be called upon slacking. Be sure this is your ticket to getting fit.

Skype is the service most people prefer for the VoIP, instant messaging and group conferencing while it works with a better interface, better behaved background operation, lower resource requirements and better voice quality.

This app revolves fully around Facebook, Twitter, Linked-in and FourSquare client and includes limited contact and calendar syncing while homescreen is people-centric, the interface is smooth and rivals the commercial Gravity client.

Shazam is a music recognition utility with the free version which is limited to five attempts a monthm specifically for the casual users. It takes a ten second sample of music and creates an audio fingerprint based on the audio data’s spectrogram where fingerprint is then sent to Shazam’s central network across your phone’s data connection and at Shazam’s end the fingerprint is compared with their massive database of pre-computed audio fingerprints.

It is an offscreen elegant little timer utility, designed for clocking your kids on sports day or helping you about the laps of the local track where lap button adds a split/lap time to the middle roller where you can drag this down to record the times as needed.

X-plore is the current file manager of choice on Symbian where it can some of the hard tasks such as, extracting a log file, zap a cache or put a system file back in place while being very flexible, it can easily bump the font and interface element sizes to suit your eyes and fingertip size.

28: YouTube Downloader | ||
An application written in Qt, it is YouTube and a MP4 streamer and downloader. With resolution going high up to 1080p, but still there is no guarantee that even a Symbian^3 device will be able to play this back smoothly though this app can do things many desktop apps can’t.
