Instagram is one of the most popular social photo sharing platforms on the web. You can connect with existing friends who are on Instagram when you first sign up, but how can you attract more Instagram followers who might be interested in your photos?
Depending on how much you want those followers and possibly a chance to be featured on the Popular page, you may have to work hard for it. Here are a few suggested strategies you can try to help you get more Instagram followers.

Follow as Many Other Users as Possible
Following other users on Instagram is one way to get noticed. If you follow someone, chances are they might check out your profile and follow you back. It’s the old follow-for-a-follow social media trick.
Keep in mind that not everyone you follow is going to follow you back. But the more people you follow, the higher your chances are of attracting new followers.
To find people, try searching for different keywords or hashtags in the Explore tab. And if you want to keep a good balance between followers and users you’re following, try keeping track of who you follow and unfollow anyone who doesn’t follow you back after a few days.
'Like' as Many Photos as Possible
If you don’t like the idea of following hundreds or even thousands of users, you can simply try liking as many photos as you can instead. Again, search for different keywords or hashtags in the Explore tab to find photos from other users, possibly related to your theme to increase your chance of getting a follow back, and start liking those photos.
Instead of liking just one photo per user, trying going through each user’s profile and liking between 5 to 10 of their photos. That will for sure get you noticed, and could encourage them to follow you – even if you don’t follow them first.
Use Popular Hashtags in Your Photo Descriptions
One of the easiest way to increase Instagram activity without spending hours following other users and liking photos is to simply just add as many relevant hashtags as you can to your photo’s description before you post it. People are always searching the hashtags, so it’s a great way to get noticed.
Advertise Your Instagram Account and Photos on Other Social Networks, Websites or Blogs
If you’ve got a significant amount of people who pay attention to you elsewhere – like on Facebook or on a personal blog – you could attract more Instagram followers just by letting those people know you’re on Instagram.
Try the automatic posting feature Instagram lets you take advantage of, so you can push your photos to Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr or Flickr. And if you have your own website or blog, try linking to your Instagram profile with an Instagram badge.
Try Buying Followers
Although buying more Instagram followers is an option, it’s not recommended if you’re looking for real, authentic users who genuinely like your photos. Buying followers on any social media site is usually only suggested in you purely only want to get your numbers up.
There’s no guarantee that those followers are currently active, and many people who buy followers end up seeing them disappear over time. But if you’ve got a few bucks to spare, it could be worth trying out as an experiment.
Search Google for “buy Instagram followers” and you’ll see a bunch of different sites promising hundreds or thousands of followers for different rates.
Post Great Photos and Interact with Other Users
Of course, without great photos, your Instagram profile is probably going to seem less appealing to prospective followers. Focus on capturing great pictures and setting appropriate filters to enhance the details.
Spending just five minutes a day interacting with your own followers or other users you follow could also lead to new followers. It all comes down to putting yourself out there, and having great photos that people want to see more of in the future.
