Pros and Cons of Google Blogger

Whether you want to use blogging to share your knowledge and opinion online or to earn extra cash, you will need a dependable platform to build your website on. One of the largest free platforms at present is Google Blogger. It competes primarily with WordPress and Tumblr. Consider its benefits and drawbacks to decide whether it will be the best option for you.

The Good

Google Blogger is completely free to use. You will be able to build your own website with fine design and complete functionality without making any investment. What's more, the platform gives you free hosting with your chosen domain name. This can save you hundreds of dollars over the years.

This platform is perhaps the easiest to use among the big three. Anyone who has a Gmail account can start using it directly. You can build your website from scratch using simple dragging and dropping. You need only basic coding skills which you can master in a matter of days. When it comes to creating written content, you can do this on any word processor and just paste it. You can readily embed multimedia content as well.

You could start earning cash from the very beginning as your blog will be automatically integrated with Google AdSense. You will also get presence on Google+ without having to setup a separate account.

Flexibility is another great advantage of Blogger. You can have up to a hundred different authors on your website. You can also use a specially designed free app which enables you to manage your site directly from your iOS or Android smartphone or tablet.

The Not So Good

While there is a range of design templates, which can be customized, this platform does not have many completely customized free or paid themes unlike WordPress. Besides, the free ones are not of particularly high quality. That is why if you want unique and impressive design, you may have to hire a professional to do the job.

The choice of widgets and plug-ins is not particularly large. You will get everything which you need to start a basic and perfectly functional blog. If you want to upgrade it and develop it further, however, you may run into obstacles.

If you opt for the free hosting on the platform's servers, you may find it quite challenging to move your blog elsewhere. The content can be transferred, but you may lose your search engine rankings and important user data stored on the server.

Overall, Blogger is a great platform for beginners and those who have limited budget to invest in the creation of a functional website.
