IM+ for Android Updated with New Features and Improved Battery Usage

One of the most popular messaging applications for Android devices, IM+ has just received a major update that brings new features and enhancements meant to improve users’ overall experience.

The folks at SHAPE Services added support for more IM services and included more options and tweaks for users to take advantages of.

One of the most important changes included in the latest update is the improved battery usage while IM+ is running in the background. According to developers, the latest version of IM+ has significantly improved battery usage.

Prior to this update, IM+ had support for Beep, Skype, Facebook Chat, MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, Google Talk, and MySpace services. However, with the latest version of the application, there is new support for the following IM services: mig33, SINA Weibo, Mamba.Ru and Fetion.

Users will now have the option to import accounts and settings from IM+ to IM+ Pro, and they can also disable system notifications for AOL / AIM IM service. There’s also a new option to set Master Password as well.

Another new feature added is the possibility to group the Contact list by accounts. Preview for images and videos in chat window is now possible as well.

SHAPE Services states that outgoing messages are queued if network is not available and will be automatically sent when network connection is restored.

Last but not least, Android users will be able to take advantage of the following IM+ features:

- Group chats in MSN, AIM, ICQ;
- Chat history;
- Multiple accounts per service;
- Create personal and geo status messages;
- Customize your IM-ing experience with different sound notifications and emoticons;
- Typing notifications.

IM+ 6.3.1 is now available as a free download via Google Play store and it should be fully compatible with most devices running Android 2.1 and up.
